Primary Stage

Multi-Disciplinary Goal Oriented Curriculum

In primary school, we set the foundation for being innovative and imaginative with the help of various self-explanatory and interactive activities. Inquisitiveness is the key to success and we try to instil that in young minds through our inquiry based curriculum. It allows them to think, understand and learn rationally.

The fun-filled and engaging curriculum of the primary section encourages students to learn more and relate these learnings to their day-to-day life. Apart from brushing up skills like reading, writing and learning, we encourage our students to identify their passion and deep-dive into their favourite subjects.

In our endeavour to make the learning environment fun and stimulating, we provide enriching experiences in our classrooms to develop their competency and skill across various subject domains.

  • Learning how to work effectively and respectfully with other people through pair and group work
  • Research-based learning
  • Project-based learning
  • Peer and student led learning through Flip classes etc.
  • Public speaking and presentation etc.

These experiences will spell success for our learners in the future as confident and independent thinkers of tomorrow.

Areas of Knowledge

To participate effectively in the increasingly competitive world of today, students need to think critically, communicate effectively, collaborate with diverse peers, solve complex problems, adopt a global mindset, and engage with information and technologies to arrive at situational solutions.

LANGUAGES

Fostering competence in language and literacy is an essential tool for achieving the Grade level objectives and ultimately leads to student success as all subjects have a language component.

We, at Capstone High, strive to integrate 21st-century skills with language development in our classrooms through our three language policy. It is essential to encourage full respect for the use of vernacular in teaching and learning, to promote linguistic diversity. Inclusive language education policies not only lead to higher learning achievements, but contribute to tolerance, social cohesion, and peace.

ENGLISH

English is the medium of communication in school.

Not just literacy and writing skills, through our English curriculum we build the next generation of responsible global citizens. We use opportunities to connect our lessons more oriented towards social and community issues.

Children are motivated to read texts and discuss their learning in a forum that leads them to think critically about issues or problems in the story and to analyze it from many viewpoints and perspectives in the class with an open mind. It helps them to be critical thinkers, which is one of the most valuable skills that our students will need in the future.

Hindi

A new language is best learnt by associating words with what they see around them. Word-drawing association provides students with a visual frame of reference to remember any new word they learn during an exercise. Students are encouraged to express their thoughts and ideas around everyday situations through Art (including stories, theatre, music, dance and visual art) which enhances their comprehension skills.

Activity done in class help achieve the following purposes:
1. Developing focus and clarity of thought
2. Developing vocabulary
3. Ability to communicate in the language

Practice questions as given in the books are not the only criteria for how much children remember the lesson, Activities ensure students are allowed to engage with the text, to think, visualize, observe, and use language in a diverse context as well as in their everyday communication.

KANNADA

Mathematics

The Mathematics curriculum at the primary level is designed to ensure that children build a strong foundation by connecting and applying mathematical concepts in a variety of engaging ways and situations.

It also addresses the complex individual needs of every child to acquire

  • number sense
  • develop a sense of space and spatial thinking
  • realize the need and understanding for common units of measurement
  • explore data through first-hand observations.
  • Apply mathematical concepts to provide day to day solutions.

Understanding of mathematical themes (numbers, shapes, problem-solving patterns and systematic reasoning) is demonstrated by applying them in daily life for various purposes including problem-solving. We treat mathematics both as a tool for practical utility as well as a discipline that develops reasoning and analytical abilities. Students are expected to develop a connection between daily life contexts and mathematical thinking.

Science

With the technological advancements globally, children need to be scientifically literate to succeed. Students are encouraged to develop their ability to ask questions, collect information, organise and test their ideas, solve problems, and apply what they learn to provide situational solutions to better understand the concept.

In Capstone High, teachers facilitate and inspire students to maximise the potential of their formal and informal learning experiences through observation, research, communication and conclusion.

Science activities provide children with opportunities to develop and practice many different skills and attributes. These include communication skills, collaborative skills, team working, creative thinking skills, critical thinking skills and perseverance, as well as analytical, reasoning and problem-solving skills.

Social Studies

Social Studies, at primary level, helps students to understand the interrelationship of the world they live in and appreciate the complexities of the human experience in their physical and social environment. It helps students in understanding and appreciating real-world issues and develops critical thinking skills.

We, at Capstone High, follow different engaging and enriching teaching strategies to help students develop a deep conceptual understanding and encourage them to develop higher order thinking skills. Some of the strategies used are:

  • Graphic organizers: a helpful learning tool for students to organize, clarify, or simplify complex information—they help students construct under standing through an exploration of the relationships between and across concepts.
  • For Collaborative learning students are divided into smaller groups of two or more learners who work together to solve problems, complete tasks or learn new concepts.
  • In a flipped classroom, instead of the teacher introducing a new concept and assigning projects, students are encoouraged to research and share their knowledge with their friends in the classroom.
  • Visual learning helps students to retain information more effectively than any other method. We use images, videos, charts, maps, documentaries, diagrams, etc for teaching students in the classroom.

Art

Art integration is an approach to teaching in which students construct and demonstrate understanding of different subjects through expressive Art form. Students engage in a creative process which connects an art form and another subject area and meets evolving objectives in both.
