Language
Fostering competence in language and literacy is an essential tool for achieving Grade level objectives and ultimately leads to student success, as all subjects have a language component.
We strive to integrate 21st-century skills with language development in our classrooms through our three-language policy. It is essential to encourage full respect for the use of vernacular in teaching and learning to promote linguistic diversity. Inclusive language education policies not only lead to higher learning achievements but also contribute to tolerance, social cohesion, and peace.
English
The English language plays a crucial role in an individual’s life, as literacy is a skill that enables one to gain
independence, develop confidence, and gain autonomy. English as an international language is important for students to learn to help them communicate, broaden their minds, and develop emotional skills.
The English language is developed through four core skills:
- Listening Skills: It improves the learner’s imagination and vocabulary. A student is encouraged to visualise the scene while listening and use different mediums of expression to articulate their thoughts.
- Speaking Skills: Learners can identify their mistakes when speaking, which helps them improve their language skills.
- Reading Skills: It helps in building vocabulary and improves the concentration of the learner.
- Writing Skills: It helps learners express their feelings, thoughts, and ideas lucidly.
- Mastering these four skills makes a student a better communicator.
- Understanding and Tracing Irony in O Henry’s A Retrieved Reformation: Ananya (Grade-7) has used Jamboard to present her understanding.
- Budding Entrepreneurs, a PBLs project: Edwin and his team are sharing their business plan through Padlet.
Apart from
Communication skills, Collaboration and Creative Thinking are two of the most sought-after 21st century skills developed through English Language.
The Project Based Learning or PBLs in English not only initiated the process to inculcate these 21st-century skills but also helped the students to go for subject integration with
SST, Science and Math. Projects on
Biodiversity, Black Lives Matter Movement, Teenage Stress Management, Budding Entrepreneur (Start-up), and Creative Advertisement are some of the projects that transformed a language class into a discussion room where everyone could share and communicate their ideas. It enhanced their
communication skills, vocabulary, and skills in group discussions (GD).
PBL on English War Poetry- A student from Grade-8 is presenting her interpretation.
“Poetry in Painting”: Samanvitha(Grade-8) communicated her understanding of the poem ‘The Listeners’ by Walter de La Mare through her painting skills.
Mathematics
Numeracy helps individuals develop logical thinking and reasoning strategies in their everyday activities. It is needed to solve day-to-day problems, including strategies in the sports field. At Capstone High, we believe that when students are encouraged to take agency in their learning and teachers facilitate students to change the way they think about mathematics, they become genuinely engaged and understand the place of mathematics in the modern world.
We help students to identify real-world problems across subjects. They are encouraged to innovate solutions for themselves by applying mathematical concepts through experiential and problem-based learning.
Hands-on activities are a comprehensive solution that builds an appealing world full of colour, touch, and exploration around the subject of Mathematics. It allows,
- Seamless integration of creativity.
- Connectivity and problem-solving for contextual learning and aims at enabling students to learn to reason, connect ideas, and think logically.
- It ensures that the student gets a thorough grasp of the subject, thus laying a foundation to train students to think, analyse, and articulate logically.
- Visualising solid shapes and checking Euler’s Theorem.
- Solving sums on integers using integer slabs.
- Framing algebraic expressions for the given patterns.
- Plotting (x,y) coordinates.
- Identifying the number of edges, faces, and vertices for the given solid shapes.
Science
Science is what we see all around us. A deep understanding of scientific concepts related to their familiar environment encourages students to come up with innovative ideas. STEAM learning and the use of technology through the Design Thinking Process is what helps students ideate and develop effective situational solutions.
Teaching/learning Science also involves a lot of communication with other people and develops patience and perseverance in children. Problem-based learning encourages students to be adaptive and promotes the essential 21st-century skills of communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity.
WHY? HOW? WHAT?
These questions push children to develop an inquiring mind, carry out research, and form their own opinions to strengthen their scientific concepts. Numerous scientific and technological contributions of recent times have helped us reach out to students, even virtually.
Our students make the best use of study skills and share the concepts learned with their peers through flip classes using different strategies and edtech tools like PPT, Journals, Mind map etc.

Students experiment to understand the processes of Sedimentation, decantation, and filtration to separate insoluble substances from the liquid: An integrated learning in Science and Social studies.
Exploring parts of flower: Dissecting Hibiscus.
Students test the presence of starch, sugar, protein, and fat in a food sample.
Social Science
Social studies help students develop an understanding of the world around them, appreciate diversity, respect different perspectives, and make informed and value-based decisions. With this goal in mind, the social science curriculum is designed in a way that the students think critically, express their thoughts and views confidently, propose creative solutions to the problems in their environment, and work in collaboration with their peers.
The students are encouraged to read and analyse case studies on social issues from around the world and understand their relevance in their environment. They are encouraged to engage in project-based learning, where they work in small groups to research various topics or think of out-of-the-box solutions to problems they face in everyday life. The students are always encouraged to hone their communication skills and confidence by presenting their learning through Show and Tell or online Webinars.
Students research and create models of the excavated cities of the Harappan Civilization.
Students presenting their research on the Gupta period during a Flipped classroom.
Students presenting a Timeline of the Mughal Period as a Project-Based Assignment.
Hindi
Teaching Hindi as a second language is crucial from the point of view of developing Hindi as a link language for India as an official language. Students are encouraged to express their thoughts and ideas around everyday situations through various
Art forms (including story-telling, creative writing, theatre, music, dance, and visual art) to make Hindi learning interesting and engaging. This enhances their comprehension skills, language competencies, and ability to participate in everyday communication.
Activities done in class help achieve the following purposes:
- Developing focus and clarity of thought.
- Developing vocabulary.
- Ability to communicate in the language.
