Languages
At this level, students are expected to have a strong conceptual understanding of the core subjects as per the guidelines offered by the CBSE to enable them to appear for the exit examination on completion of their Grade 10 course.
Through our two-year (9th and 10th grade) course, we enable students to explore their understanding of the key areas of knowledge and their ideological viewpoints to help them become aware of their perspectives on knowledge acquisition. Their teachers facilitate them to ask the fundamental questions of how and what they know and help them explore knowledge across subject domains.
With vast information sources in the digital age, students are encouraged to develop the ability to separate facts from fiction and understand how to apply critical thinking to connect their classroom learning to real-life situations and enhance their emotional skills.
English
Students are motivated to develop a personal appreciation of language and literature, which equips them with critical thinking skills in their interaction with the world around them. They develop an understanding of how language challenges and sustains the way they think.
Collaboration and creative thinking are two of the most sought-after 21st-century skills, in addition to communication and critical thinking skills.Project-Based Learning, or PBLs in English, not only initiates the process of inculcating these 21st-century skills but also helps the students to go for subject integration with all other subjects.
Projects on Biodiversity, Black Lives Matter Movement, Teenage Stress Management, Budding Entrepreneur (Start-up), Creative Advertisement are some of the projects that transform a language class into a discussion room where everyone can share and communicate their ideas. It enhances their communication and vocabulary skills and their skills for group discussions (GD) and subject deliberations.
Various edtech tools have been introduced in our English classes to keep the students engaged throughout the year in keeping with our ongoing work on education innovation.Google Jamboard, Padlet, Google Docs, and Slides are used not only to impart knowledge but also to assess students’ subject competency. These tools also help our students to be active listeners and confident communicators.
Hindi
Teaching Hindi as a second language is crucial from the point of view of developing Hindi as a link language for India as an official language. Students are encouraged to express their thoughts and ideas around everyday situations through various
Art forms (including story-telling, creative writing, theatre, music, dance, and visual art) to make Hindi learning interesting and engaging. This enhances their comprehension skills, language competencies, and ability to participate in everyday communication.
The following purposes are achieved through different activities:
- Developing focus and clarity of thought.
- Developing vocabulary.
- Ability to communicate in the language.
Kannada
ಭಾರತವು ವಿವಿಧತೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಏಕತೆಯನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿರುವ ಹಾಗು ಬಹುಭಾಷೆಗಳನ್ನುಳ್ಳ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರ. ಭಾಷೆಯು ಕೇವಲ ಸಂವಹನ ಮಾಧ್ಯಮವಾಗಿರದೆ, ಸಮಾಜದಲ್ಲಿ ಎಲ್ಲರ ನಡುವೆ ಉತ್ತಮ ಬಾಂಧವ್ಯವನ್ನು ಬೆಸೆಯುವಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಷೆಯು ಪ್ರಧಾನ ಪಾತ್ರವನ್ನುವಹಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಭಾಷಾ ಬೋಧನೆಯು ಒಂದು ಕಲೆ. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಶಾಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಕನ್ನಡವನ್ನು ದ್ವಿತೀಯ ಮತ್ತು ತೃತೀಯ ಭಾಷೆಯನ್ನಾಗಿ ಬೋಧಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ.
೨೧ನೇ ಶತಮಾನದ (ಕಮ್ಯುನಿಕೇಷನ್,ಕೊಲಾಬರೇಷನ್, ಕ್ರಿಯೇಟಿವಿಟಿ, ಕ್ರಿಟಿಕಲ್ ತಿಂಕಿಂಗ್ ) ಕೌಶಲಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ, ಭಾಷಾಕೌಶಲಗಳಾದ ಆಲಿಸುವಿಕೆ, ಾತುಗಾರಿಕೆ,ಓದುಗಾರಿಕೆ,ಬರವಣಿಗೆ ಕೌಶಲಗಳನ್ನು ಕಥೆ, ಹಾಡುಗಾರಿಕೆ, ಾಟಕಾಭಿನಯ,ಚರ್ಚಾಪದ್ಧತಿ, ಗುಂಪು ಚರ್ಚೆ, ಆಶುಭಾಷಣ, ಮುಂತಾದ ವಿವಿಧ ಸೃಜನಶೀಲ ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ ಆನಂದದಾಯಕ ಕಲಿಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಗಿಯಾಗುವಂತ ಪೂರಕ ವಾತಾವರಣವನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ.
Mathematics
Mathematics is taught at two levels: Standard and Basic, and students are encouraged to become proficient in it as a crucial life skill for more advanced studies. Students enrolled in standard mathematics are eligible to pursue subjects that require a thorough understanding of mathematics, such as different branches of Science and the Humanities.
At Capstone High, we give students the freedom to develop their conceptual understanding, discover things for themselves, direct their learning to relate to real-life issues and understand the role of mathematics in the modern world.
Science
Combined Science offered at the secondary level allows learners to study Biology, Chemistry, and Physics as integrated subjects. A deep understanding of scientific concepts related to their environment encourages students to come up with innovative ideas.
STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) learning and identifying real-life problems through the Design Thinking Process helps students ideate and develop effective situational solutions. Project-based learning encourages students to be adaptive and promotes the essential 21st-century skills of communication, collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, and a positive attitude.
Students are encouraged to develop an inquiring mind, conduct research, form opinions, and advance their knowledge of current scientific ideas and innovations.
Social Science
Social studies, offered as a 4-subject combination (History, Civics, Geography, and Economics), is taught in a manner that helps students to develop an understanding of the world around them, appreciate diversity, respect different perspectives, and make informed and value-based decisions.
Students are encouraged to think critically, express their thoughts and views confidently, propose creative solutions to the problems in their environment, and work collaboratively with their peers through Project-Based Learnings (PBLs). They are encouraged to read and analyse case studies on global social issues, think of creative solutions to everyday problems, and understand their relevance in real life. The students are always encouraged to hone their communication skills and confidence by presenting their learning through Show and Tell or live online Webinars.
